So, this is what happens when I go away to a folk festival for 4 days without interweb connection or mobile reception? I come home, greeted by 500 spam emails and a pile of blog posts all complaining about the discussion happening on the leadership blog started by a reflection by Brian Mclaren on homosexuality…
I actually enjoyed reading Mclaren’s piece, he sounds like a nice guy and a good pastor, he writes:
I am a pastor, and pastors have learned from Jesus that there is more to answering a question than being right or even honest: we must also be . . . pastoral. That means understanding the question beneath the question, the need or fear or hope or assumption that motivates the question.
A very good reflection, this is a skill I’m trying to learn more than any other at the moment, to hear the question behind the question… working with young people I should be used to it by now, and I guess i am but I’m only learning how to hear the question behind the questions of other adults…
sex (Mclaren on Leadership Blog), sex (Mark Driscoll on Mclaren), sex (another blogger’s response…), sex (Mclaren responds), sex (Len responds), sex (Scott Mknight), sex (Scott Mcknight), sex (Scott Mcknight), sex (Scott Mcknight), sex (Scott Mcknight), sex (I wrote something on homosexuality a while ago and it did absolutely squat to my stats), sex (i wrote this in 2003), sex (Andi links the conversation), sex (Terry responds), sex (Aaron responds to Driscoll), sex (Bob responds to Driscoll), sex (Steve comments), sex (Robby comments), sex (Bob Carlton says “Shame On You, Mark Driscoll (and Leadership Blog)”), sex (Tallskinni blogs, not about sexuality but asks “Is the Blogosphere Ready for Mark Driscoll?”), sex (Signposts links to the article), sex (speaking about Signposts, here’s an example of what can happen when one links to a story about sexuality… note the highest comment number there is currently 854 comments heh heh), sex (Alan comments on the Mclaren article), sex (Grant comments on teh sharp tongue), sex (David wonders if the Jolly-blogging comment was a personal swipe), sex (Jordon Cooper links to the “discussion”), sex (Chris leans on Opus), sex (Scott Berkhimer makes a great observation “sin is never abstract”), sex (Cleave posts a muse), sex (Tallskinny comments again - and calls us Aussies uncouth heh), sex (Jason asks some questions about ranting), sex (Maggi links and comments), sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex, sex…
But the truth of it is that all the arguments that go “we’re right, you’re wrong” is a pile of poo to me, as if some rabid conservative has the god given revelation of what is truth, and as if some uber liberal knows the correct understanding of scripture… I had thought that many of these people understood the concept that truth is elusive and that by claiming it to themselves they’re holding to a falsehood…
So, I say let the first person without sin throw the first blog post, (and I might add to that a reminder that Mark Driscoll isn’t sinnless so I’d prefer him to keep quiet)
