I’ve decided to pick up Steve Taylor’s new book “The Out of Bounds Church: Learning to Create a Community of Faith in a Culture of Change
” and give it a read. I’ll review each chapter one by one and include my own thoughts as well as describing some of the major themes in the chapter.
Well, that’s it folks, I’ve finished it all now, below are the links to my thoughts on each chapter for you to look through… It’s been a lot of fun and I’ve enjoyed reading the book and engaging with it as I’ve gone through it. Spend some time checking through my thoughts, but please do go out and purchase the book as it’s a good read with some great suggestions and theological discussions for people, for the church to think through.
Anyhow, I think I’ve said enough, check out my thoughts on each chapter, go buy the book, join the journey… that is all for now.
Note: If you’re in Melbourne you may be interested in catching Steve at his Australian Book Launch. Details over at signposts…

[…] It’s been a long time coming, but I finally have pieced together my e-interview with Steve Taylor, author of the book “The Out of Bounds Church.” People may remember that I’d previously written an in depth review of the text, which I think has been one of the better YS-Emergent released of the past two years. I may be a little biased here, but I think it’s exciting to see one of these books coming from the southern hemisphere, and that Steve’s put together a phenomenal text that not only shares stories from other communities around the world by also continues to do some theologizing about what on earth is going on in the weird missional fringes of the church. For those of you that are interested a sample chapter can be accessed on the YS website (pdf file). […]
[…] i’m thinking a lot about steve taylor’s book and the use of the DJ metaphor and am asking questions like “how do we tell the difference between good and bad music?” I’m also asking what the consequences might be for seeing the role as the pastor as DJ, the community as VJ and the church as dance party. I’m also likening compassion to a gut feeling, chasing up on one of the root meaning s of the word being a movement, a feeling deep inside to the feeling that one gets from a subwoofer beat during a dance party, both churn up inside us and both inspire us to do something, to move.
